FEMA Penalizes Houston County Because Of Its Geographic Location
Houston County is currently grappling with substantial rebuilding expenses totaling $3.507 million due to the devastating effects of the Cottonwood tornado and the flash flood on February 12. Unfortunately, due to FEMA's assistance policy, which disadvantages counties located along state borders, Houston County is required to bear the entirety of these costs alone.
Last Tuesday, I took our concerns directly to Capitol Hill, engaging with our elected federal representatives to highlight this unfair policy and advocate for equitable treatment for Houston County.
Iβve written an opinion piece that is on 1819news.com, and Iβd invite you to read it to learn more about why Houston County is standing alone in its recovery efforts and what we hope to accomplish to prevent border counties from facing similar situations in the future.
