Prioritizing Our Roads
Traditionally, Houston County allocated funds to each department first, using whatever remained to resurface roads. This year, we made a slight change: we prioritized road resurfacing before allocating funds to other areas. This shift in strategy is already showing results.
Since I joined the Houston County Commission in 2014, we have resurfaced only one road from the general fund that wasn't part of a federal subsidy, grant, or bond issue. However, this fiscal year, weโre adding D. Hodge, Crawford, Cedar Springs, Smithville, Iris, and Ben Ivey Roads to that list.
Combined with other available funding, this will allow us to resurface over 50 miles of roads at a total cost of just over $8.3 million.
Progress!
