People sometimes ask me about the local impact of Alabama’s 2019 gas tax increase. The money given to the counties by the state has undoubtedly helped as we’ve paved roads that would otherwise still be in disrepair.
But we’ve got a long way to go. The gas tax doesn’t solve our problems. We’ve always maintained that position. But it definitely helps!
There are two tables below. One, labeled Houston County Rebuild Alabama Projects, shows projects completed directly due to the gas tax. The other is a table showing the other road projects we’ve been able to accomplish due to federal funds.
